Wedding Cupcake Table

September 20, 2010 at 9:53 pm | Posted in Bridal Fare, Cupcakes are my true love, Entertainment Center, {the atomic cakery} | 4 Comments

Earlier this summer I had the pleasure of working with a lovely bride, Laura Ogard, and her equally lovely parents. Her style and my style were so compatible, so it was a snap to pull off a cupcake buffet for her wedding that was exactly like she pictured. Caleb Chancey, a great photographer and all-around good guy, did a beautiful job of capturing this wedding and was so sweet to let me use some of his photos for my blog. (Thanks CC!) And thank you so much to the Ogards for letting me part of this big day!

I can’t get enough of the vintage plant stand that they borrowed from a family friend. It took all my restraint to not take it with me! And the beautiful horse stables the reception was held in couldn’t be beat.

I love a bride who appreciates balancing traditional wedding cake flavors with fun flavors. In addition to classic vanilla and chocolate-chocolate, Laura also chose mint chocolate, strawberry, red velvet, s’mores, and caramel.

Birthday Fiesta!!

July 19, 2010 at 9:03 pm | Posted in Entertainment Center, Friends are friends forever! | 3 Comments

Where to begin? Have I bragged enough about the amazing girls I work with, who have become some of my most favorite and fabulous friends? Not to brag too much about them and make you jealous, but when you get a photographer, a chef, 2 graphic designers, and people who otherwise have more talent than is probably good for them, you end up with a birthday party (fiesta!) fit for a magazine. Thank you SO much to Jessica, Jordan, Kamin, Chantel, Stephanie, Brooke, Allison, Sarah, and Megan for an amazing party. I shutter to think what I’d do without you lovely ladies!

Top Row: The charming decor consisted of a punched-out paper garland made by Jessica, a brightly colored pinata filled with chocolate (of course), and a paper doily garland, also made by Jessica.

Bottom Row: The margarita, dips, and tacos were made from SCRATCH by Chantel. Amazing. She has promised to send recipes my way for you to enjoy and make home!

All photos: Who else but Kamin Williams?

BONUS: OK, exciting announcement! It’s still very much in the works, mostly because we can’t agree on a name, but the incredible ladies that brought this party together (including myself, not that I had anything to do with this party except turn another year older), are joining forces to create an amazing new blog! It will be full of style, DIY fun, decor, travel, food, pretty pictures, and lifestyle. We hope to launch soon!!! Stay tuned!!!

Nana Cakes with Empress Stationery

Jessica Stalnaker, this girl, what am I going to do with her? She so talented it’s scary. I was so happy to once again coordinate my cupcakes to her paperie, this time for her Nana’s (pronounced NAH-na, not neh-ha, mind you) 80th birthday party. She had a really fun color palette of light blue, dark yellow, and soft coraly-orangey-pink (?) and I tinted the frosting on the mini cupcakes to match. I love that she took photos of her Nana throughout the years and topped the cupcakes with her face. So clever and funny!

Here’s the rest of the photos from her party; I can’t get enough of Jessica’s details, the drink flags and the postcard sentiments are my fave!

I can’t get enough of this. I want every piece. I just love and appreciate dinnerware that is tongue-and-cheek and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Fun Invitation Idea

This really  fun invitation idea was made by my amazing friend and partner in crime style, Tiffany Robinson. It was for her husband’s 31st birthday party, and since the birthday boy happens to be a pretty killer rock skipper, we all met up at the lake at had a big rock-skipping contest. She cleverly tailored the invitations to match the theme and took it a step further by wrapping it up in the Funnies.

If you need floral or event design of any kind, and if you know what’s best, you’ll contact her! She’s the genius behind Studio Flower and is the only florist I use for my photo shoots! Love ya babe!

Halloween Decor, Part II

This weekend I started getting my house ready for our party, and I transformed my china cabinet into a spooky spider-infested Halloween vignette.

2009 Halloween Decor, Part I + BinB’s Official Photog

October 12, 2009 at 3:31 pm | Posted in Entertainment Center, Friends are friends forever!, Merry Halloween | 1 Comment

I’ve had a few people ask me to share my Halloween decorations via my blog, which I was planning on doing anyway, but now maybe I can say “By popular demand, my Halloween decor!!” Maybe? Anyway.

Last week I started working on these little swizzle sticks to go in the butterbeer I’ll be making for my party this year. Heather Bailey, who has one of the most sugar sweet blogs I’ve ever seen, made these as part of her Harry Potter Hoopla series back in July, and I’ve been waiting since to start crafting these bad boys. (And please excuse my chipped nail polish. I overslept on this dreary Monday morning in Birmingham.)

Hers are cuter than mine! But no sweat, Heather Bailey’s cuteness is something I could never live up to! I chose to leave the ends of these more haphazard whereas she chose to keep her straight.

For a detailed step-by-step on how to make these, go to Heather’s blog right here!

Also, I want to give some quick love to Kamin Hoyle Williams of Behind K’s Lens. You’ve seen me give her shouts in various posts, but seeing as how she tends to keep (graciously) snapping beautiful pictures for this blog over and over again (including the one above), I have given her the illustrious, and maybe dubious, title as Baked in Birmingham’s official blog photographer! Congratulations! Your prize is that you have to deal with me! Thanks so much K, you are da best! Isn’t she the cutest?

It’s October! Time to get the gears really turning on the Nichols’ 2nd Annual Halloween Party. Last week Zack made these invitations, and I sat on the floor last night and glittered ALL of them. Aren’t the great? Deliveries start today!

P.S. Thanks to Kamin for snapping this photo on the fly this morning!

What’s Your Halloween Decorating Style?

I LOVE Halloween and I can’t wait to pull out the rest of my decorations this week. I’m really excited about our 2nd annual Halloween party and can’t wait to start making all of the food for it and officially get my tabletop decor going. I found this quiz on Martha this morning and think it rings pretty true. Go on over to her site and take it and too and post your results!
